Play & Flow

Building Connection and Confidence in the Water

A Unique Water Experience for Parents and Young Children

Play & Flow is a 10-week water program designed for young children and their parents to explore, bond and grow together in the water. It’s not just about learning to swim. It’s about building confidence, deepening connection and having fun along the way.

Classes take place in a warm 32-degree swimming pool at Omega, IJburg, Amsterdam. Giving families easy access to a local swimming opportunity that is much needed in this neighborhood.

Why Play & Flow

  • Confidence & Connection – Children become more at ease in the water, and parents learn to guide them with calmness and clarity.

  • Holistic Approach – Drawing from my background as a certified WATSU® (water shiatsu) therapist and years of teaching families during my travels, I bring a soulful, body-aware way of teaching that honors both child and parent.

  • Parent Empowerment – Parents discover that they can be their child’s best teacher in the water. It’s not difficult, just about presence, play and practice.

  • Fun & Learning Go Hand in Hand – Joy in the water accelerates the learning process and makes every session memorable.

Please note: This program is not goal-oriented. It’s about process, not performance. Sometimes children (and parents!) will feel uncomfortable and that’s part of the journey too. In those moments, we practice staying calm, playful and connected.

About the Classes

How the Classes Flow

Each 60-minute class has a clear and playful structure:

  • 15 minutes free play – Gentle exposure, warming up and discovering the water at your own pace.

  • 30 minutes guided class – Focused learning moments like:

    • Going underwater (kopje onder) and staying relaxed

    • Jumping off the side with confidence

    • (First steps toward) floating on the back

  • 15 minutes free play – Integration time, freedom and joy before closing.

No floaties are used, because they actually work against natural swimming development. Instead, children learn with their own body, supported closely by their parent.

What You Will Experience

  • For children: Early water confidence, playful skill-building and a safe first step towards future swimming lessons and a zwemdiploma. Many parents notice that once formal swimming lessons begin, their child progresses way more smoothly thanks to the foundation built here.

  • For parents: Practical tools to guide your child, a chance to practice staying calm when challenges arise and a deeply bonding experience.

  • For both: Moments of joy, presence and connection that last far beyond the water. The imprint of confidence & connection built in the water translates into greater confidence & connection on land too.
